Our Story

Beeston Consolidated Charity has been part of the community for generations. Our history goes back more than 300 years, beginning with four small local charities — the Mary & Elizabeth Charlton, Henry Hanley, Elizabeth Wakefield, and Henry Kirk charities.
The earliest of these, the Charlton Charity, was founded sometime before 1727, with the earliest surviving record dating back to that year. For many years, these charities could only offer modest help to local people. In 1993, they merged to form Beeston Consolidated Charity, and in 2014, the sale of a major asset transformed our ability to support the community.

What We Do Today

We no longer provide grants to individuals - instead, we work by funding other registered charities and voluntary organisations for their own work in the Beeston area, who are best-placed to support people in need. This allows us to to reach more people more effectively, through services and initiatives that are already embedded in the community.

How We’re Run

We are a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), governed by a Constitution adopted in 2015, and managed by up to eight trustees. We are registered with the Charity Commission (Registration Number 1164090) and comply fully with charity law and guidance. You can read more about our trustees, finances, and governance on the Charity Commission’s website. We are governed by a constitution and regulated by the Charity Commission. The Charity must submit its Accounts and Annual Report to the Charity Commission every year – these are available to view by looking at our Charity’s entry on www.gov.uk/Charity Commission.

Where Our Funding Comes From

Our income is generated entirely from investments in the Charities Official Investment Fund. We don’t rely on government grants or public fundraising. We follow an ethical investment policy, ensuring our income is aligned with the values and mission of the Charity.
