Our Story
Helping more people, Helping people more
We provide grants to groups and individuals which help those suffering social disadvantage or financial hardship in the Beeston area
Beeston Consolidated Charity was formed in 1993 by the merger of four parochial charities for the poor of Beeston, namely the charities of:
• Mary & Elizabeth Charlton
• Henry Hanley
• Elizabeth Wakefield
• Henry Kirk
These charities were established originally by local benefactors, the earliest record of which relates to the Charlton Charity and dates back to 1727. The four charities were very small and were only able to offer modest help to those in need. However, following the sale of a major asset in 2014, the Charity now has far more resources and is able to offer much greater help to many more people.
The Object of the Charity is to provide assistance to those in need, hardship and distress who live within Beeston or its immediate vicinity. This is achieved largely by providing grants to groups and organisations which help those suffering social disadvantage or financial hardship. Assistance to individuals or families is also given for the payment for, or provision of, goods and/or services.
Beeston Consolidated Charity is now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) which is governed by a Constitution dated 10th October 2015, and is managed by up to eight trustees. The Charity is registered with the Charity Commission (Registration Number 1164090) and, as such, we must comply with relevant charity law and guidance. Much more information about this can be found on the Charity Commission’s website (www.charitycommission.gov.uk), along with further details of our Charity’s trustees, accounts, etc.
The Charity gets all of its income from investments in the Charities Official Investment Fund and, as such, is not dependent upon government grants or from public fund-raising. The trustees adopt a policy of ethical investment to ensure that income is not received from sources whose ethics would clash with the objects of the Charity.
